According to Texas state law, all non-native deer species are considered 'livestock'. This includes every species from elk down to tiny Chinese water deer, muntjacs as well. If you can keep a pet goat or sheep in your yard, a potbellied pig in the house, llama in the pasture, etc., you can also keep munties. Some select cities DO have ordinances, but most don't. Many rural areas are totally exempt from control.
The major Texas laws on prohibited species focus mainly on 'dangerous' species, such as big cats, hyenas, bears, etc. |
